U.S. Battery Storage Monthly
Step-Change Higher in July
Highlights:
EnerWrap utilizes the EIA-923 report to analyze and provide insights into gross battery storage discharge in the United States, data that is generally unavailable elsewhere
With the July 2024 data out, it is apparent battery storage markets are in material growth mode - as we’ve noted in The Nooner rarely a day goes by without another project being announced
U.S. gross battery storage discharge in July was 1,169,151 MWHrs - the highest on record - up 22.9% versus last month and up 139.3% versus last year
Last 12-month U.S. gross battery discharge was 8.97 GWHrs, up 90.4%
U.S. operating battery storage capacity is currently 25,987 MW, which expands by more than double to 60,960 MW with what is in the current pipeline
California leads the way in gross discharge, with Arizona, Nevada and Texas following, however, Texas will surpass California in capacity in 2025
Battery storage projects are operating at capacity factors similar to gas peaking plants on a gross discharge basis, we highlight plant-level capacity factors below
