State Level and Federal-Private Mix
Highlights:
U.S. monthly natural gas production as of September 2024 was 119.8 Bcf/d, down -3.6% versus last month and down -1.2% compared with last year. LTM U.S. natural gas production was 125.7 Bcf/d, up 1.4% versus last year.
Of the 119.8 Bcf/d of natural gas produced in the U.S. during September 2024 52.0% came from just three states. Texas (33.4 Bcf/d), Pennsylvania (19.7 Bcf/d) & Louisiana (9.2 Bcf/d) dominate U.S. gas production.
Since the U.S. shale movement began (pre-2008), Texas natural gas production has increased 13.2 Bcf/d, Pennsylvania 18.9 Bcf/d and Louisiana 5.4 Bcf/d.
Once 14.7 Bcf/d and 23.3% of U.S. natural gas production, Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico has fallen to 1.6 Bcf/d, or just 1.3% of U.S. production
As of the latest Department of Interior data from July 2024, 89.1% of U.S. natural gas production came from Private lands, 8.6% from Federal Onshore, 1.6% Federal Offshore and 0.7% Native Onshore.
