Solar Shining Up 44% Versus Last Year
Highlights:

Total power generation in October 2024 was 322 Twh, up 2.3% versus last year and down 6.8% versus September as mild weather impacted power demand
Solar generation was up 43.6% compared to last year, gas was up 5.0% and wind 9.8%
Nuclear power generation was down 5.9% and coal was down 7.3% compared with October 2023
Natural gas had 42.2% market share in October 2024 - for comparison that was 38.9% in October 2019
Over the same 2019 - 2024 timeframe, coal share in October slipped from 21.3% to 15.0%
Natural gas is largely displacing coal as renewables provide supply for increased demand
