Highlights:
U.S. monthly natural gas production as of May 2024 was 127.6 Bcf/d, up 6.6% versus last month and down -1.1% compared with last year. LTM U.S. natural gas production was 125.5 Bcf/d, up 2.3% versus last year.
Of the 127.6 Bcf/d of natural gas produced in the U.S. during May 2024 50.1% came from just three states. Texas (33.8 Bcf/d), Pennsylvania (20.1 Bcf/d) & Louisiana (10.0 Bcf/d) dominate U.S. gas production.
Since the U.S. shale movement began (pre-2008), Texas natural gas production has increased 15.6 Bcf/d, Pennsylvania 19.6 Bcf/d and Louisiana 7.0 Bcf/d.
Once 14.7 Bcf/d and 23.3% of U.S. natural gas production, Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico has fallen to 1.8 Bcf/d, or just 1.4% of U.S. production
As of the latest Department of Interior data from March 2024, 89.6% of U.S. natural gas production came from Private lands, 8.3% from Federal Onshore, 1.5% Federal Offshore and 0.7% Native Onshore.
