Of the 121.0 Bcf/d of natural gas produced in the U.S. during September 2023 53.5% came from just three states. Texas (32.4 Bcf/d), Pennsylvania (20.6 Bcf/d) & Louisiana (11.8 Bcf/d) dominate U.S. gas production.

Since the U.S. shale movement began (pre-2008), Texas natural gas production has increased 14.4 Bcf/d, Pennsylvania 20.0 Bcf/d and Louisiana 8.0 Bcf/d.

Once 14.7 Bcf/d and 23.3% of U.S. natural gas production, Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico has fallen to 2.1 Bcf/d, or just 1.7% of U.S. production

As of the latest Department of Interior data from July 2023, 90.0% of U.S. natural gas production came from Private lands, 7.5% from Federal Onshore, 1.7% Federal Offshore and 0.8% Native Onshore.
