Eddy & Lea Counties in New Mexico continue to dominate the oil story from onshore Federal leases, producing 76% of total oil production
Oil production was up 144,745 barrels per day versus 2022, with Eddy & Lea Counties up 145,973 barrels per day
Onshore natural gas production rose from 9.9 Bcf/d to 10.3 Bcf/d
Eddy & Lea Counties alone rose 0.8 Bcf/d and now represent 41% of natural gas production from Federal leases, up from 9% in 2016

Despite the political rhetoric, oil production from onshore Federal leases continues to show a steady rise, producing 1.45 million barrels per day in 2023, up from 1.3 million barrels per day in 2022
At 10.3 Bcf/d natural gas production growth from onshore Federal leases is more muted than oil through a combination of low gas prices negatively impacting gas-focused drilling, offset by associated gas from oil-focused leases.
