U.S. Wind Power Monthly

Winds May Be Changing

Highlights:

  • After a period of sideways to lower wind power generation in the U.S., the fuel source seems to have its proverbial wind at its back again

  • Wind shows seasonality with warmer weather resulting in lower wind generation, but we’d note summer months result in more solar generation providing an offset

  • Daily data used to calculate monthlies shows U.S. L-48 wind generation in August was 29,485 MWHrs, up 4.7% versus last month and up 6.9% versus last year

  • Last 12-month U.S. wind generation was 471.6 GWHrs

  • In no surprise, the renewed growth is being led by Texas, the largest renewable state in the U.S.

  • Total wind capacity is currently 152,376 megawatts, with another 25,000 MW in the planned pipeline
